I’ve been very fortunate to be approved by Netgalley for so many terrific books. Here are 6 new mystery releases for May 2019.
The Savage Shore, by David Hewson
Released 5/2/19
I said in my review that I had never read any of David Hewson’s work before, but I must’ve had a memory lapse! I realized that years ago, before I began writing down title and authors in my reading log, I had read one of his novels and thoroughly enjoyed it. I even remember recommending it to a young writer on my old writing review site as an example of how to handle violence in fiction. But for the life of me, I can’t recall the title of the novel!
Beautifully written, tension-filled police novel set on a wild coast of Italy.
Gnosis, by Rick Hall
Releases: 5/8/19
I got this one from the author, not Netgalley. I thoroughly enjoyed this fantasy/mystery with a kickass parkour-loving heroine, the adorable 10-year-old sentient virus living in her brain, and their entourage of colorful characters as she tries to catch her father’s killers. Debut, indie author. Go over to Rick’s website and check it out.
I am Lemonade Lucy! by Kenneth Womack
Releases: 5/9/19
An international student and a history-obsessed teen search for an item missing from a presidential museum and find their town’s prejudice in this light-hearted but relevant book. Read my review here.
The Killer You Know, by S. R. Masters
Releases: 5/14/19
Enjoyable suspense novel. Old friends reunite and investigate whether their missing friend has become a serial killer. Will he kill one of them next? Doesn’t that make you shiver? As I said in my review, I liked getting into the heads of all these old friends.
Deception Cove, by Owen Laukkanen
Releases: 5/21/19
An excellent, powerful thriller with wounded characters, an evocative setting, high stakes, terrific storytelling, and a rescue dog! I didn’t want this book to end. And I want a puppy now. (Sadly, I’m allergic.) (Read my review here.. You can also read it now on Goodreads.)
The Controller, by Matt Brolly
Releases: 5/23/19
When former FBI agent Lynch’s son is kidnapped, Lynch suspects a brutal underground organization, The Railroad, is responsible. Violent, gripping, & compelling. Enjoyable first book in a new thriller series. (Review coming later this month, but you can read it on Goodreads now.)
Now you’re all set to binge-read suspense and mystery novels. Do you know of other mystery novels debuting this month? Share them in the comments!
Happy to see you have found Owen’s work. He’s a talented author and all round great guy. I follow Lucy on Instagram! :-)
Oh how fun! I saw a few of his pictures of Lucy, but I’m not on Instagram. She looks like a sweetie.
