Newsletter news, February 2025 edition

Hi, everyone! I’ve basically transferred my blog to Substack, and I’d love it if you join me there. I publish my free newsletter every other week, usually on Wednesdays, and feature interviews with mystery/thriller writers and tidbits from my research.

Interviews:

Tales from the Desert: how New Mexico inspires one mystery novelist

Life took me to other places but that heart-bond never changed.” –E.A. Mayes

Opera Meets Murder and Mayhem in the New Mexican Desert

It occurred to me that an opera house was the perfect setting for a murder mystery. –Erica Miner

Giving back dignity to victims: a true crime podcaster shares her passion

Sometimes, just one small thing separates them from the listener or reader. –Shoney Sien

Meet Author Cayce Osborne

I love the trick Horowitz used in the beginning of Magpie Murders, where you start reading the front matter and launch into the book, only to later realize you’ve been reading the book within the book. –Cayce Osborne

Love the mystery genre but tired of violent deaths?  If you’re yearning for a mystery without murder, I’ve put together a list of links to lists of murderless mysteries. (Well, that wasn’t confusing at all, was it?)

I have several more interviews lined up for the new year, including another mystery writer (who happens to be passionate about dogs!), a mystery writer/medical detective (and her passion for disease microbes and zoonoses!), and a historical mystery writer/librarian (and her passion for getting middle-schoolers to read). If you happen to be a mystery writer, I’m open to interviewing authors of traditional mysteries, thrillers, and suspense, and true crime. And if you have a cool job, all the better. I love interviewing people about their work or passion!
