July’s a busy month for new releases! Thanks to Netgalley and publishers’ generosity, I’ve been able to read several soon-to-be released novels. Whether you prefer historical or modern, cozy mysteries or thrillers, there’s something here for all tastes. So check these out, pack them in your travel bag, and enjoy a new book while you lounge at the pool or beach.

Text in grey box reads, "New Mystery Releases July 2019." Three are being released today, July 1st, and another’s available tomorrow.

The Leaden Heart by Chris Nickson

This one will always have a special place in my heart because it was the first book I reviewed for Netgalley. Historical mystery, set in turn-of-the-century Leeds. Detective Superintendent Tom Harper returns to investigate the suspicious death of an old friend’s brother, and uncovers a web of business corruption. Publication date: July 1, 2019.

The Watchers of the Dead by Simon Beaufort

Historical mystery, set in Victorian-era England. Journalists Alec Lonsdale and Hulda Friederichs investigate the deaths of multiple high profile men and try to thwart a threatened Christmas Eve disaster instigated by the mysterious “Watchers” group. Publication date: July 1, 2019.

Murder by the Minster by Helen Cox

Cozy mystery. Librarian Kitt’s best friend has been accused of murdering her ex-boyfriend. Convinced of Evie’s innocence, Kitt snoops around and ends up on the trail of a serial killer with a bizarre modus operandi. Publication date: July 1, 2019.

American Red by David Marlett

Historical mystery, based on a true story, set in America. Follows the trial of a union leader accused of assassinating the Idaho governor. Big business and unions square off in a complicated, bloody, and fascinating true story. Clarence Darrow leads as the criminal defense attorney. A must for any American history buff!  Publication date: July 2, 2019.

Razia by Abda Khan

A young British lawyer of Pakistani descent learns that a young Pakistani girl is being held in slavery in London. How far will she go to free this girl? Publication date: July 11, 2019. Review coming later this week.

Beijing Payback by Daniel Nieh

Thriller, set in America and China. A young man of Chinese descent learns his murdered father lived a double life as a respectable restaurant owner and a smuggler of contraband. Acting on his father’s last instructions, the young man seeks to avenge his father’s death. Review coming later this month. Publication date: July 23, 2019.

Update: On June 18th, I woke up to emails from Netgalley: I’d been approved for four new novels. (Including two that, I swear, I do not remember requesting. As surprises go, that’s cool.) One’s last Thursday’s review and a new July release, too: Marked Men by Chris Simms. Thanks, Netgalley and Severn House!
