In my area of the U.S., February is still cold, the wind still beats at the windows, and I still feel the urge to curl up in front of the fireplace with a great book. This month, I had several fabulous books to read.

My February review roundup:

Lady Jail by John Farrow. Mystery. When an inmate is murdered, Emile Cinq-Mars searches for the killer inside the prison while a gang war looms outside. A fabulous twist on the locked-room mystery.

The Unwilling by John Hart. Historical crime fiction. Gibby’s brother has returned from the Vietnam war and prison, but now he’s accused of murder. Can he prove Jason’s innocence . . . and his own?

Writing update

In my writing, I’m starting the seventh draft of my current WIP, The Color of Bones. I’ve printed out draft #6 and am re-typing it into a new document, hoping that I’ll catch awkward wordings, itty-bitty typos, and continuity errors that I’m blind to when editing a full document. This is a newer process of editing for me, but I think it’s paying off.
