Blurb

After a very public breakup during which her ex, Caleb, tells her she is both (a) boring and (b) stuck in her ways, Savannah Moore decides that going with her mom on her company cruise to Alaska presents the perfect opportunity to show people how fun she is.

It won’t be easy, though. Her longtime nemesis, Tanner Woods, is also on the ship. His family and Savannah’s are friends, and Tanner knows her better than she’d like to admit. When he learns of her plan, Tanner wants to help, and he encourages her to try everything: zip-lining and dogsledding, hiking the bear-infested Alaskan wilderness, singing late night karaoke, and taking a polar plunge. That’ll show Caleb just what he’s missing.

Except after spending so much time with Tanner, Savannah’s not sure Caleb is the one she wants anymore…

Review

A sweet, clean YA romcom. I enjoyed reading Savannah and Tanner’s story! After her boyfriend dumps her for being too “boring”, Savannah goes on an Alaskan cruise with her parents and their close friends. Unfortunately, their friends’ son Tanner, Savannah’s nemesis and the antithesis of everything Savannah wants in a guy, is also along and they’re stuck together an awful lot. They end up fake dating to make Savannah’s ex jealous, but we all know how fictional fake dating works in romance!

I liked the characters! Savannah is a bit stuck in her ways and reluctant to take risks; I could identify with her fears and reluctance to try new things. (I was stuck in my rut in high school enough that my crush teased me about being stuck in a “ditch” because I ordered the same meal at lunch every day. He intended to be funny, and I appreciated the attention enough to not be insulted.)

Tanner is fun and sweet and unpredictable. Plus he gets Savannah’s sarcastic humor. It’s great to see Savannah emerge from her self-imposed rules and find love. I’ve enjoyed every book I’ve read by Becky Dean!

You can find Hearts Overboard at Hearts Overboard on Bookshop.org. And while you’re there, check out Becky’s other books. I really enjoyed Love & Other Great Expectations. It satisfied my inner Anglophile!
